Welcome to Gamer of the North — A Community Built Around the Games We Love

21 March 2026

It Started With a Book

I was a kid when I first picked up a Fighting Fantasy gamebook. You Are the Hero. Turn to 247. It was the first time a story had ever asked me to make a decision — and then lived with the consequences.

I was completely hooked.

Around the same time I stumbled across Traveller. I never played it back then — I was too young, had nobody to play with, and the rules felt vast and unknowable. But the idea of it stayed with me. A universe. A crew. Infinite possibility. Years later, when I finally sat down at a Traveller table, it was exactly what I'd always imagined.

The Hobby Never Left Me

Life gets in the way. The dice get packed away. But tabletop RPGs have a habit of pulling you back.

For me it was solo gaming that did it. The idea that you could run a proper RPG session on your own — with oracles, random tables, and a genuine sense of adventure — completely rekindled my love for the hobby. Ironsworn in particular changed the way I think about what an RPG can be.

And once you're back in, you're back in.

Why I Built This Site

Gamer of the North exists for the same reason I got into tabletop RPGs in the first place: because the games are brilliant and the people who play them are worth building for.

This is a hub for fellow gamers. A place to find tools, guides, and resources across the systems we love — from D&D to Fighting Fantasy to solo journaling games. Whether you're a grizzled GM with thirty years at the table or someone who just finished their first gamebook, there's something here for you.

The vision is community. Not just content — a place where people who love this hobby can find their people.

What's Coming

The site is live and growing. System pages are up, the blog is running, and new content is being added regularly. Here's what's on the way:

  • Tools and trackers for specific RPG systems
  • Free downloads — character sheets, reference cards, oracle tables
  • Guides for getting started with systems like Traveller, Ironsworn, and more
  • Solo gaming resources (this is close to my heart)
  • Blog posts on the games, the community, and the craft of tabletop RPG

Welcome to the North

If you've ever chosen your own adventure, rolled for initiative, or spent an evening exploring a world that only existed around a table — you belong here.

Pull up a chair. The dice are warm.
